Trauma

Historical Trauma

Overview.

Black and Brown communities carry generational trauma from systemic oppression, forced medical experimentation, and discriminatory healthcare practices. This creates legitimate mistrust of medical and mental health institutions. Past harm makes it difficult to engage with systems that have caused intergenerational pain. Current experiences of discrimination in healthcare settings reinforce this mistrust.
