Questions answered.
Can yoga actually reduce my anxiety?
Absolutely. Research shows that both meditation and asanas are powerful tools to calm anxiety, a condition that affects two out of every 5 adults in the United States. While there are plenty of options to treat anxiety, very few are as safe and effective as yoga. Most experts agree that the effects of trauma live in the body—and that’s why yoga works. A consistent yoga and meditation practice increases the activity in parts of the brain that support self-regulation, the ability to manage stress and return to homeostasis. While the research supporting yoga and meditation’s ability to heal trauma is strong, all yoga classes are not created equal. Some yoga classes can be triggering, by the environment, an unconscious instructor, or simply by who’s not in the room.
How can your program help me?
Yoga—both a noun and a verb—aims to achieve full consciousness and balance of mind, body, and spirit. It's a powerful and effective framework for regulating the breath, balancing the nervous system, and quieting the mind. Yoga is a healing art comprised of 8 limbs, which progress from physical form (asana) through expanded sensory awareness to full consciousness (samadhi). Using the eight limbs of yoga as our map, we explore how ancient wisdom addresses modern anxiety. Our programming provides a pathway from burnout to presence, and from external action to inner awareness, one mindful step at a time.
How is this different from public yoga classes?
A yoga teacher can show you some poses to soothe your lower back but a yoga therapist can help you work out why your back is hurting. We guide you into physical postures (asanas), suggest shifts in you mindset as well as behavioral changes to improve your overall wellbeing. Our program centers around private 1 : 1 sessions, where every cue is tailored to help your nervous system down-regulate. There’s also no pressure to perform, to keep up, or compare yourself to others. You’ll actually learn what your body needs. Additionally, our program includes meditation and breathwork practice circles.
How do I join your program?
Book a free discovery session, and we’ll identify your pain points and wellness goals. Once we understand where you are and where you want to go, we’ll connect you to a therapeutic yoga guide. In your private practice sessions, the tension in your body releases as your repetitive thoughts begin to unwind.
What's my investment?
Private yoga classes can cost $100-200+ per session, putting it out of reach for many. We believe healing shouldn't be a luxury reserved for those with the biggest budgets. We use an equity sliding scale, which is supplemented by our donors to close the gap. Choose your rate based on an honest assessment of your resources. Pay any amount between $150 ― $350 each month. Your monthly membership includes 4 private asana sessions, weekday meditation, and collective breathwork circles. This model works when we're all honest about what we can sustainably give and receive. We trust you to choose honestly. And if you can't afford our lowest rate, reach out and we'll help figure it out.
