Systemic Racism
Racial Disparities
Overview.
Black and Brown individuals are significantly less likely to receive mental health treatment despite experiencing higher rates of trauma and chronic stress. They face barriers including lack of providers from similar backgrounds, cultural mistrust of medical systems, implicit bias in diagnosis and treatment, and economic obstacles. When they do access care, they're more likely to receive lower-quality treatment or be misdiagnosed. Historical trauma and ongoing discrimination compound mental health challenges.
Challenge.
Communities most impacted by structural stressors have the least access to quality, culturally competent care, perpetuating health inequities and intergenerational trauma.
Our Work.
